Norway's new drumline: Complete
24 Jun 2008

Using contemporary drumlines as a source for inspiration, a group of drummers have brought a fresh breeze to the Norwegian marching scene. They call themselves Complete, and their mission is to create something new and innovative in a country where traditions is strong, and until today, untouchable.

Sunday, June 15th was the 'Day of the Guard', an annual 'open base'-day held by the Kings Guard of Norway. The event is aimed at the general public, and the purpose is to give people a look at the lives of the young men and women currently enrolled in the Guard. The event featured a show, or tattoo, in which various military and non-military bands were invited to show off their talents. This would also become Complete's first public performance.

The seven members of Complete entered the arena with their black and white mafia-based uniforms, as the announcer introduced: "The drumline you're looking at was established in August 2007. Next year, the spring of 2009, will be the time when they go public for real. Meanwhile they will look for more members to make their official debut next year a memorable one. Welcome, Complete!" Complete executed the show with excellent musicianship and a fierce visual impact, and gave the audience a good taste of what is to come when they kick it up a notch next year.

Complete consists of former members of His Majesty The King's Guard of Norway. Every member still carries the experience and work ethic taught in the King's Guard, and they believe that this will be a huge aid in helping Complete reach its goals. They draw inspiration from the American drumline scene, which until now has remained almost unknown in Norway. The members are confident that they can be a huge inspiration to drummers around the nation, and that they can help in creating a healthy competitive environment which will raise the talent level among Norwegian drummers. Complete is supported by Premier Drums, who takes care of their equipment needs.

To become as visible to the public as possible, Complete will perform on many levels and in many contexts. They will have a show suitable for small and large arenas, and even a stage show designed for corporate events and happenings. It should be exciting to follow them and see what happens when they change the way Norwegians think about drumming.
