Star and Kidsgrove take top honors in Barnsley

It was a weekend full of drum corps and show band at the Barnsley Football Club. On Saturday, Northern Star won the Division 1 of the BYBA Academy Brass contest. On Sunday, the Kidsgrove Scouts took top honors in the DCUK Open Class.

All three participating corps in BYBA Division 1 (Northern Star, Distant Thunder, and 6th Hove Scouts) scored well with an exciting program for the audience. Northern Star scored 730 points, followed by Distant Thunder (685) and 6th Hove (624). The Trinity Show Band won Division 2 with 671 points.

Besides the competing corps in the DCUK contest on Sunday, the event featured several performances in exhibition, including the Senators Drum & Bugle Corps. The Open Class was a clean sweep for the Kidsgrove Scouts: they topped all captions. The Scouts scores 70.2 points. Second place was for the Poynton Commodores with a score of 61.3. In the A-Class, the victory went to Phoenix Coventry.
